Kenya Bag with Leather Handles - Cream
MADE IN KENYA
Hand woven by rural Kamba women from tough sisal fibers. Sisal grows well in the semi-arid climate of eastern Kenya, and its spiky leaves contain long fibers that can be extracted for weaving. Leather handles and a loop + toggle closure.
From start to finish, the process of making a single sisal bag can take an entire week. Each purchase helps empower and support fair trade artisans and promotes sustainable methods of production.
PLEASE NOTE: BECAUSE THIS ITEM IS HANDCRAFTED, EACH ONE MAY VARY SLIGHTLY IN SIZE AND DESIGN. No two are exactly alike, making your bag one of a kind.
Approximate size: 9"D x 14.5"W x 10.5"H
Handle drop: 9"
To shape a sisal bag, spray creased areas lightly with cold water to keep colors from bleeding. Shape the basket by hand by pressing against the woven fibers and molding the basket to the desired shape. Once the basket has been shaped, place it to dry on a surface where dye transfer might occur. This process can be repeated as often as needed. Be ready to enjoy your bag for a long time!
